Applications for FLAMIN Productions 2011 are now open

Film London and Arts Council England present FLAMIN Productions, a major commissioning scheme for London’s artist film-makers. Part of Film London Artists’ Moving Image Network, FLAMIN Productions aims to support the most exciting, innovative and challenging moving image projects with production finance and bespoke mentoring opportunities.

FLAMIN Productions is the only scheme of its kind in the UK. It commissions new, single screen works that are ambitious in premise and duration, with an emphasis on projects that have strong potential to reach audiences through gallery exhibition and screenings.

Over the period 2011/12 to 2014/15, FLAMIN Productions will be investing £360,000 of production funding with awards of between £20,000 to £50,000 available. This is the first call for applications. In this round up to 5 projects will be shortlisted and invited to develop their ideas for resubmission as full production tenders. Projects will then be reassessed for production funding.

BFI London 2011 : Make A Video Contest

MOFILM is heading back to the Londonfor the 55th BFI London Film Festival and their third Londonvideo contest. Always one of the highlights of the MOFILM calendar, this year is going to be extremely special as Terry Gilliam will be our host.

Writer, animator, part of the legendary Monty Python, Gilliam is also an award winning director with a genre defying body of work, including numerous cult classics, including Brazil, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and Time Bandits.

Choose from briefs from the following companies Dell, Pepsi, Santander, Chevrolet and Campbells. The first place winners will pick up a cash prize and a four-day trip for two to Londonto attend the MOFILM Awards ceremony and dinner; there’ll also be the chance to walk the red carpet.

National Student Survey Poster Competition

This year’s NSS poster competition is your opportunity to showcase your creative skills and have your design included in its high profile national marketing campaign.

The winner will receive:
• National recognition as the winning poster is used to advertise the NSS across every university in the country and is targeted at the over 300,000 students eligible to complete the survey.
• A day working with the firm responsible for running the NSS, Ipsos MORI, to further develop and adapt the poster, getting it ready for use in the promotional campaign.
• A one week work placement with leadingLondon design firm hat-trick.

The competition is open to all students on a current programme of study (as of May 2011) at a higher education or further education institution.

Ilustrarte Children’s books illustrator Competition

Every two years, Ilustrarte is an opportunity to see the world’s best illustration and to bring together in Lisbon illustrators, writers and readers of all ages. Children’s books illustrators from all over the world are invited to take part in the Ilustrarte competition sending 3 original illustrations, unpublished or published after January 2009.

Urban Outfitters wants to provide an area for creative new graduates to display their work and highlight their talent. Every day from the end of June and throughout July they will be featuring one graduate on their website.

Applications are open to designers, artists, illustrators and photographers.

FreshFacedandWildEyed2011 photography competition – Call for entries

FreshFacedandWildEyed2011 is the fourth in our annual competition for recent graduates. Following an online submission process, a panel of judges will select work for exhibition on this website.

This year’s judges are Edmund Clark, photographer; Tim Clark, Editor-in-chief, 1000 Words Photography Magazine; Louise Clements, Artistic Director, Quad and Format International Photography Festival; and Brett Rogers, Director, The Photographers’ Gallery.

Deadline for submissions is 18.00 on Friday 24 June 2011.

Annecy/YouTube competition – Call for Entries

The International Animation Film Festival and YouTube are launching the second edition of the Annecy/YouTube competition which is open to all. Participants should submit an animated short film on video of a running time of no longer than five minutes, taking into account the specific theme: “Animation, land of freedom”. This original creation must make a reference to and contain the key words “International Animation Film Festival” and “Annecy 2011”.

Annecy 2011 is particularly focusing its programme on the USA and a reference to this country can also be included in the film. The short film is to be put online on the YouTube channel of the Annecy Festival from 7th February to midnight 1st May 2011 to the following address: www.youtube.com/annecyfestival

The winner will receive prizes including a Cristal trophy, a diploma and a week at the Annecy Festival from 6th to 11th June 2011 where the film will be screened.

Type Design International Student Competition – Register Now

The Polish New Art Foundation Znaczy Się has an international type design competition for a typeface. There is no entry fee and all currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate students are invited to participate.

London Transport Museum Illustration Competition – Open for Submission

London Transport Museum, in partnership with the Association of Illustrators, is delighted to announce the 2011 Serco Prize for Illustration.

This year, the theme is the River Thames and entries should feature the river as a central feature of London and London life. It is the task of entrants to create an illustration that draws attention to the benefits of the river.

The competition is open to all AOI member or non-member illustrators and students of illustration. Agents or colleges may only submit entries on behalf of the illustrator with the express permission of the artist.

The top 50 entries will be displayed in an exhibition at London Transport Museum that will open in May 2011.

International Street Photography Award

The International Street Photography Award is looking for the world’s best street photographer as part of the first annual London Street Photography Festival in 2011.

Street photography is perhaps more easily defined as a method than a genre. The results can fit into documentary, portraiture and other genres, but the key elements of spontaneity, careful observation and an open mind ready to capture whatever appears in the viewfinder are essential.

Open to photographers from anywhere in the world who are 18+ years old.

The global winner will receive £1,000 cash (approx 1,549 USD) plus an all-expenses-paid trip to the exhibition launch and awards ceremony in London.
