Seven entries have been selected to take part in this year’s WAF Student Charrette, in association with Marco Goldschmeid Foundation and Perkins + Will. We received 17 expressions of interest from across the world, the largest ever field. All were of a high standard and the selectors looked for clarity of concept and its potential to generate an original contribution to the theme set out in the brief. The selectors would like to thank all the entrants for making their task so difficult and interesting, and we look forward to seeing the participants at the Festival.

After much deliberation, the selected entrants are:

The University of Westminster (London, UK) and National University of Singapore
The implications of juxtaposing arts and culture in Singapore’s Central Business District

IE School of Architecture and Design, Madrid, Spain
Adaptive Habitats, a design strategy that aims at developing and implementing diverse schemes which respond to specific socio-economic, cultural, and climatic needs of one place

School of Architecture and Planning, Bhopal, India
Past, Present and Future, re-imagining the City of Lakes

University of San Carlos, The Philippines
Creative Destruction – the resurrection of Colon Street, Cebu City, The Philippines

Design School, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, India
Remaking Ahmedabad – the third fastest growing city in Asia

Ho Chi Minh City University of Architecture
Work Park – a vision for a central quarter of Ho Chi Minh City/Saigon

Department of Architecture, Institut Teknologi Bandung, Indonesia
Light up the Alun-Alun – an open space in central Bandung

All finalists will now work up their ideas into fully formed designs live at WAF. On the final day of the festival the teams will present back to a prestigious WAF jury chaired by Director of the Architectural Association, Brett Steele. The judging will be open to all festival delegates to watch and be inspired by the next generation of architectural talent.
