The Grand Shaft, Dover
INEARTH is a site-specific sound installation situated in the triple staircase fortification of The Grand Shaft in Dover. The sound matter is comprised of room tones and field recordings gathered from inside The Grand Shaft. These recordings have subsequently been subjected to a variety of digital and analogue processes and composed into a long-form drone composition. The composition itself is mapped across 10 speakers, allowing for the composition to engage with and respond to the unique structure of the Grand Shaft. As visitors navigate through the tunnels and staircase they are simultaneously navigating the slowly modulating composition. Expect echoing drones and spiralling swells.
